About Swanborough House
Swanborough House in Brighton is a residential home supporting adults with physical disabilities, most of them younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. The people who live here are adults with their own plans, not patients, and the house is run accordingly. People choose their own rooms and how they look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and decide how their own weeks are spent. Our part is to make those choices practical rather than to fill the day on somebody's behalf. A great deal of independence comes down to physical detail. Whether equipment is where it is needed, whether a room is arranged so that things are within reach, whether a hoist or a chair is ready at the right moment, whether a carer assists at the point of need rather than taking over the whole task. We get those details right and we write them down precisely, because the difference between help that liberates and help that diminishes is often a matter of inches and timing. Getting out is central to life here. Work, college, friends, family, sport and simply going into town all take planning around transport and access, and we treat that planning as part of the job. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and anybody who would like to see how we work is welcome to visit.
