About & Hove City Council - Craven Vale Resource Centre
Craven Vale Resource Centre is a residential care home in Brighton supporting older people. We offer permanent places and respite stays. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they are ready. They keep their own belongings, their own routines and their own opinions. Meals are worth sitting down to and worth having a view about. Where somebody can manage a thing themselves, we support rather than take over, even when doing it for them would be quicker. The weeks after a move matter more than anything else, so that is where we put our effort. We want to know what somebody did for a living, who is important to them, what they like to eat, when they prefer to wake and what turns a bad day around. None of that arrives on an assessment form. It comes from sitting down and asking, and from listening to families, who usually know more than any paperwork records. Respite stays are part of what we do. A family carer who has gone a long time without a break needs a real one, with proper support in place for the person staying. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit on an ordinary day.
