About Woodside
We are Woodside, a residential care home in Bournemouth. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. The people we support often have needs that overlap in ways the usual categories miss. Somebody may have a learning disability, a physical disability and difficulty with what they can see or hear all at once, and support built around only one of those will not hold up. So we plan around the person and take time to find out what genuinely helps on a good day and on a hard one. Communication is where we start. We find out how somebody makes themselves understood, we use that method consistently, and we check that we have actually been understood rather than assuming it. Predictability does most of the rest of the work, along with familiar staff and a routine that we protect rather than ask people to be flexible about. Choice runs through the day as far as it can, with help offered rather than imposed, and families and advocates are involved as much as the person wants. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
