About Acorn Lodge
Acorn Lodge is a residential care home in Bournemouth supporting adults who have a learning disability and adults who are autistic. We are a small household rather than an institution, and the people who live here have a genuine say in how it runs. Support is agreed with each person and ranges from help with personal care and medication to practical assistance with cooking, budgeting, shopping and appointments, to simply having reliable people nearby while somebody gets on with college, work or seeing friends. We do what is wanted and leave the rest alone, because taking over is easy and unhelpful. For the autistic people we support, predictability does much of the work. We give notice before anything changes, we pay attention to noise, light and how busy the shared areas get and we learn how each person prefers to be given information. Where somebody becomes distressed, our first question is what caused it rather than how to manage it. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, which can give families a planned break and let a person get to know us first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit.
