About The Piers
The Piers is a residential care home in Bournemouth, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism and adults with physical disabilities. This is a home for people who need support to get on with the life they want, and the household is arranged around the people in it. Support here is individual. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it covers the parts of life that are too easily treated as extras: friendships, going out, keeping up an interest, having something worth getting up for. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, and we make a point of giving people the time to do things for themselves even when stepping in would be quicker. Where somebody wants more independence, support is planned to withdraw gradually as they grow into it. Many of the people we support are younger adults, and we are careful not to treat them as a group with a single set of needs. Respite stays are available too, which give a family carer a real break and let somebody try the house before anything permanent is discussed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit, meet the people who live here and see how the place actually runs day by day.
