About Meyrick Lodge

We are a residential care home in Bournemouth, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, including people living with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays for people who need support for a period rather than a permanent move. Our job is to run a house where people live their own lives with the support they need, not a place that organises their lives for them. That means we pay close attention to how somebody communicates, what they need from their surroundings, what turns a manageable day into a hard one and what helps when that happens. It also means being careful about change. Notice, explanation and a predictable shape to the week are not niceties here, they are the difference between somebody coping and somebody struggling. Where sight or hearing loss is part of the picture, how we approach a person and how a room is arranged matter a great deal, and we expect staff to get those details right without being reminded. We would far rather somebody did something for themselves slowly than had it done for them quickly, and we measure how we are doing partly by how much people are able to manage without us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are a family member or a professional considering a placement or a respite stay, please get in touch and we will talk it through openly with you.
