About Fair Haven
Fair Haven is a residential care home in Bournemouth for older people, including those living with dementia and residents with a physical disability. We are not a nursing home, so our strengths are personal care, a steady daily rhythm and knowing everybody who lives here properly. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, at the pace of the person rather than the pace of a rota. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the home familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and try to work out what is behind a change in mood instead of treating it as a symptom to manage. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably. Meals are cooked here, we ask people what they actually fancy and nobody is hurried through a plate. Getting out for some air is part of the ordinary week rather than a special event. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody recovering after illness. You are welcome to visit and ask us whatever you want to know.
