About Clarendon House
Clarendon House is a residential care home in Bournemouth. We support older people and younger adults, and our experience covers dementia, learning disabilities and autism, mental health needs and physical disabilities. Respite stays are part of what we do. With that range of people the only sensible approach is to build round individuals. A younger adult with a learning disability and an older person living with dementia want quite different things from a day, and our job is to find out what each of them wants and work round it rather than offering one routine and hoping it suits. Help with personal care, mobility, medication and health appointments is given as the person has asked and recorded carefully, so it happens the same way whoever is on shift. We give real thought to rooms and equipment, because independence often depends on whether something is within reach and whether help arrives at the moment it is wanted. Where somebody communicates differently we take the time to learn how and we write it down, so a new colleague is not starting from nothing. With dementia we lean on knowing a person well, gathering their history with their family and keeping it current. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we aim to be steady and clear. We encourage people to keep a life beyond the house. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall.
