About Portland College
We are Portland College in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. We provide nursing care and support for younger adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available too. Our focus is on younger adults, and that shapes everything. The people we support are at the stage of life when independence, friendships, ambitions and a widening world matter most, and a setting built around much older people would not serve them. So we plan individually, around what a person wants to learn, do and work towards, and we treat the nursing and personal care as the means to that rather than the point of it. Having qualified nursing available means complex health needs can be met without somebody having to leave in order to get them looked after. Medication, moving and handling, communication needs and the practical work of daily living are managed properly, and quietly, so that they do not become the whole of somebody's day. We take positive risk seriously. Protecting people from every possible setback would also protect them from most of what makes life worth having, so decisions are worked through with the person and the people who know them well. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to visit and ask us anything.
