About Percy House
Percy House is a nursing home in Blyth. We care for older people and adults with nursing needs, including people with learning disabilities, autistic people and people managing mental health conditions, and we offer respite stays. Nursing cover here is round the clock, so complex health needs, medication and care at the end of life are managed on site rather than requiring somebody to move on again. Just as importantly, changes in a resident's health are noticed by staff who know them well enough to spot that something is not right. Much of our work involves people whose needs do not fit neatly into one category, and that has taught us to be careful about assumptions. Somebody with a learning disability who is unwell is often assumed to be simply having a bad day, and somebody with a mental health condition is often not asked about physical symptoms at all. We try hard not to make either mistake. Residents choose how their rooms look and how their days run. Where somebody communicates through signing, pictures, objects or their own familiar gestures, our staff learn their way of doing it rather than expecting the reverse. For autistic residents we keep routines stable and give notice of change in advance. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of that and clear that it describes how we were found rather than a permanent condition, so we keep working at it. Please come and see us and talk to the people living here.
