About The Royal Star & Garter Homes
We are a nursing home in Surbiton, part of the Royal Star and Garter. We support older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing care, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. A good number of those living here have a military background, and that shapes the character of the place in ways that matter. Shared history, shared language, and the company of people who understand what a life of service involved are worth a great deal, and we do not treat that as incidental. Having registered nurses as part of the team means people with complex health needs can stay with us as those needs change rather than being moved on again. The clinical side is only part of a day though. The rest is meals worth eating, help without a long wait, privacy, company, and being spoken to as somebody with a working life and a family. For residents living with dementia we protect routine, keep surroundings familiar, and ask relatives for the history that lets us understand what somebody means. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Our own view is that a home is only as good as its worst shift.
