About Riverbank
Riverbank is a nursing home in Hull, supporting older people and younger adults with nursing needs, including people living with mental health needs. Having qualified nurses on site at all hours means we can care for people whose health is complicated and whose needs change quickly. Medication, wound care, attention to nutrition and pain, and the close monitoring that keeps somebody out of hospital are the ordinary business of our days. A good part of our work involves people whose mental health needs sit alongside physical ill health, and that combination is often handled badly elsewhere. People get bounced between services, or their physical symptoms get read as behaviour, or the other way round. We try to hold both properly at once, working with the mental health teams already involved rather than starting from scratch, and we do it without moralising or treating dignity as something to be earned. We also support younger adults, and we are alert to the risk of running a home that quietly assumes everybody is elderly. A younger person with nursing needs has a different idea of what a week should contain, and that is reasonable. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are pleased with it without being complacent, because the only measure that counts is how today went for the person in the room at the end of the corridor. Come and see us and ask.

More about the care at Riverbank
Nursing Care at Riverbank
Complex health and needs that shift from week to week are what nursing registration exists for. Riverbank holds it, with qualified nurses on site at all hours so that medication, wound care, nutrition and pain are managed on the premises. A person whose health is steady and who needs help mainly with daily living should be looking at residential care, which costs less. Where nursing is needed, NHS Funded Nursing Care contributes about £235 a week towards the nursing element, paid to the home rather than the resident. Ask whether it has been applied for and how it appears on the bill. The November 2019 inspection returned a good overall rating, worth weighing against fees of £1000 to £1300 a week and a council rate of £800 to £980.
