About Westside Care Home
Westside Care Home is a nursing home in Purley in the London borough of Croydon. We care for older people who need nursing support, including people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available too. Having qualified nurses on site around the clock means people whose health is genuinely complicated can stay with us as things change, rather than moving on at the point familiarity counts for most. Wounds, pain, continence, nutrition, medication and safe movement are all managed properly here, and much that might otherwise involve hospital does not have to. Because our residents have very different needs, we plan care person by person. What settles somebody with dementia is not what gives an adult with a learning disability confidence, and we would rather do each properly than stretch one routine across everybody. That means attention to particulars: how somebody likes to be addressed, what they can still do themselves, what tends to make a difficult day. We also guard against clinical care quietly reducing a person to a round of tasks. People choose when they get up, what they wear, what is on the plate and how the afternoon goes. We knock, we explain what we are about to do, and we wait for an answer. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and families what needs our attention.
