About Central and South Reablement
We are the reablement team for central and south Scarborough, working with people in their own homes for a short period after something has changed. Most people come to us after a hospital stay, a fall, an illness or an operation. We work with older people, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Our purpose is a little different from ordinary home care, and it is worth being clear about it. We are not here to take tasks over permanently. We are here to help somebody get back to doing as much as they can for themselves, which sometimes means standing back and letting a job take twenty minutes when we could have done it in five. Ability that is taken away during a recovery is very hard to win back afterwards, and our job is to protect it. In practice that means working on getting washed and dressed, moving safely about the house, preparing food, managing medication and getting confident on the stairs or out of the front door again. We work alongside therapists, district nurses and GPs. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission.
