About Dales Reablement Service
We are the Dales reablement team, based at Catterick Garrison and working with people in their own homes across this part of North Yorkshire. We support older people, people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and people with visual or hearing impairment. Reablement is short term and deliberately so. We come in at the point where managing at home has become difficult, usually after a fall, an illness or a spell in hospital, and we help people get back to doing as much for themselves as they can. That might mean practising getting in and out of a chair safely, rebuilding confidence on the stairs, sorting out equipment, or simply being there while somebody tries something again for the first time since they were unwell. Doing less for people, so they can do more for themselves, is the point. It is slower in the moment and harder than taking over, and it is what makes the difference between someone needing long term support and someone managing on their own again. Covering a rural area means distances are real, and we plan for that rather than letting it shorten visits. We work closely with therapists, district nurses, GPs and social workers, and we are honest when ongoing support is what is actually needed.
