About Acorn Community Care
Acorn Community Care supports people at home in Malton and the surrounding villages. This is a rural area, and we know that getting older or living with a disability here can mean long distances, few buses and a good deal of isolation, so our work is aimed at keeping people part of their own community. For older people we help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and drinks, laundry, shopping and keeping the house comfortable, and we help people get out, whether that is to an appointment, to the shops or just for some air. We make time for the conversation that goes with it, because company is often the part that matters most. We also support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the work is usually about independence: cooking, managing money, using local transport, keeping up with a job or a course, and having staff who understand how somebody communicates. Many of the people we support in this way are younger adults, so we fit around their lives rather than our convenience. Our care workers are local and trained for the people they visit, and they notice when something has changed because they know the household. If you would like to talk about support at home in this area, please get in touch and we will be honest about what we can do.
