About DCA Northamptonshire
DCA Northamptonshire provides care and support in people's own homes in Wellingborough and across North Northamptonshire. We work with adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and younger adults. We take the word support seriously and try hard not to let it slide into doing things for people. The first conversation is about somebody's life rather than their difficulties: what a good week looks like, what stands in the way of it, and what they would much rather manage themselves. The rota comes after that, never before. In practice that often means somebody alongside a person rather than doing things for them. At college, at work, on the bus, at an appointment, or through the difficult early weeks of living independently for the first time. It also means the ordinary business of running a household: cooking, shopping, keeping on top of post and bills, getting to places on time. Consistency is what we work hardest at, especially for autistic people and for anybody whose day depends on knowing what is coming. The same small team stays around a person, changes get proper notice, and we stick to what we agreed even when it is inconvenient for us. Where somebody finds it hard to speak for themselves, we take particular care to understand what they are telling us in other ways. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission.
