Almost everyone who contacts us wants the same thing, which is for a relative to carry on living in their own home safely. So we build our visits around the person rather than the rota. That might be a call first thing to help with washing, dressing and breakfast, support with medication through the day, help with meals, shopping and laundry, or a longer visit that lets a family carer rest or get out for a few hours. Where someone is living with dementia we try hard to send the same familiar carers, because a recognised voice at the door does more good than almost anything else we can offer. We agree the plan with the person and their family before we start, we review it as needs change, and we tell relatives promptly if we notice something is not right, whether that is a fall, a lost appetite or a mood that has shifted. The Care Quality Commission has not yet published an overall rating for us. Until it does, we are glad to be judged on how we answer your questions, on the care plan we put in writing and on what the families we already work with have to say.
