About Helping Hands
Helping Hands Eastbourne provides care to people in their own homes in Eastbourne and the surrounding part of East Sussex. We support older people, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Most enquiries reach us at an awkward moment, often after a fall or when an arrangement a family has been holding together has finally stopped working. The first useful thing we can do is slow the conversation down and work out what is genuinely needed, which is sometimes less than people fear and sometimes rather more than they have been willing to admit. From there we plan the visits around the person instead of around our rota, asking what time they actually want to get up, which tasks they want to keep doing themselves and who should be contacted when something changes. We keep the same carers going to the same households wherever we can, because a familiar face does work that no amount of training replaces. Where sight or hearing is poor we adapt our communication properly. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
