About Encounter Live-In Care

We are Encounter, providing care in people's own homes across Devon from our base in Tiverton, including care where a worker lives in the household. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities, people whose sight or hearing has changed and people whose difficulties involve an eating disorder. Care in your own home, particularly where somebody is living with you, only works if the arrangement genuinely suits the household. So we take some trouble over who we send. We introduce people properly, we listen carefully when somebody says a match is not right, and we would rather change an arrangement early than let it limp along. What the support covers depends entirely on the person. Washing and dressing, medication, meals, housework and shopping are the usual practical elements, but the greater part is often companionship, routine and somebody keeping a quiet eye on how things are going. In a rural county that matters more than most people expect. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We say so plainly. In the meantime we are happy to talk through how we recruit, train and supervise our staff and how we supervise a placement once it is under way.
