About Moorcare
Moorcare Devon supports people in their own homes in Tavistock and the surrounding villages, working with older people, adults living with dementia, adults with mental health needs, adults with a physical disability and younger adults. This is a rural part of Devon and distances matter, so we plan our visits carefully and we are honest with families about what we can commit to. Most people who contact us want the same thing, which is for someone to carry on living in their own home safely. That might mean a call first thing to help with washing, dressing and breakfast, support with medication, help with meals, shopping and laundry, or longer visits that give a husband, wife or daughter a few hours of their own. Wherever we can we send the same familiar carers to the same people, because trust is built at the door rather than on paper, and that matters most of all for someone living with dementia. Our carers are asked to notice things. If a person is eating less, sleeping poorly, becoming low or looking unsteady on their feet, we would rather raise it early with the family and with the district nurse or doctor than wait for a crisis. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better test, we think, is whether people feel able to tell us when something is not right, and we ask for that feedback regularly. Please get in touch if you would like to talk about what support might look like.
