About Social Care Reablement

Social Care Reablement works across Exeter, supporting people in their own homes, and much of what we do is the kind of care that comes after a hospital stay or a sudden loss of confidence. That shapes everything about how we operate. A great many of the people we see are at a turning point. They have had a fall or an operation, they have lost confidence as much as ability, and the next few weeks will decide whether they get back to managing or slide into needing care permanently. So our aim is usually to do less over time rather than more. We help with what is needed now and we deliberately hand things back as soon as somebody can take them on again. We support older adults and younger adults. In practice that means help with washing and dressing, medicines, meals, moving about safely, and building back up to the stairs, the kettle and the front door. It also means saying honestly when somebody is not going to get back to where they were, because a false expectation is its own kind of cruelty, and arranging something more lasting instead. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us and we will come out and talk it through.
