About DC Homecare
DC Homecare provides care and support to people in their own homes in Buckfastleigh and the surrounding part of Devon. Our experience covers dementia, physical disabilities, and sight and hearing loss. Support is worked out at home with the person and whoever they want present. For some it is a single morning call to help with washing, dressing and medication. For others it is several visits a day, with meals, company, help around the house and support to get out and about. The plan is agreed together and changes as life changes rather than when a review falls due. In a rural area the things that make care at home work are unglamorous. Rounds have to be planned so that carers are not racing between villages. Visits have to be long enough to be worth having. The same faces need to come back, because having to explain your own household to a stranger every week wears a person down. We keep our patch tight so those are realistic rather than aspirational. Where somebody is living with dementia we pay close attention to timing and familiarity. Where there is a physical disability or sensory loss we think about equipment, lighting, contrast and hearing aids that have actually been checked. Our carers are checked, trained and supervised. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
