We are Theretocare, working across the High Peak and the surrounding parts of Derbyshire, and we provide care in people's own homes. We support older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. This is hilly country with scattered villages, and getting to people reliably in bad weather is part of the job rather than an excuse. We plan our rounds accordingly and we tell families straight away if anything has to change, because a missed visit that nobody mentions is far worse than a late one that somebody explains. Support is agreed with the person before it starts. We ask how the day runs now, what has become difficult, what they still want to manage themselves, and where help would genuinely help. In practice that might be help with washing and dressing, a prompt and a check with medication, a meal cooked and shared, help getting safely about the house, or a hand with shopping and appointments. For people living with dementia, keeping things familiar does more good than anything else we could offer, so we work hard to send the same carers to the same households. A carer who knows somebody well is also the first to spot that something has changed. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission. We would rather say that ourselves, and we are glad to be asked how we recruit, train and supervise our staff.
