We are a home care agency working in Camden and the surrounding parts of London, supporting people in their own homes. Those we visit include older adults, people living with dementia, autistic adults and people with learning disabilities, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Supporting that range properly means resisting a single method. What helps an older person stay safely at home has little in common with what helps a young autistic adult manage their own flat, and a service that runs everybody through the same routine will do neither well. So we plan individually, and we match carers to people rather than to gaps in a rota. London brings its own difficulties. Travel is unpredictable and a late carer is not a neutral event when somebody is waiting for medication. We build rounds that can absorb an ordinary bad morning, and we would rather decline work than run a schedule that only functions on paper. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a reasonable floor rather than an achievement to rest on, and we make it easy for people to tell us when something has gone wrong.
