About County Carers
We provide care at home in Crowthorne and the surrounding area. Those we support include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, younger adults, people living with eating disorders, and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use. That breadth means attitude matters as much as competence. Several of the people we work with have had experiences of being judged rather than helped, and a carer who arrives with opinions about how somebody came to need support is of no use to them at all. Somebody living with an eating disorder does not need a carer with views about food. We recruit and train with that firmly in mind, and we supervise properly rather than hoping for the best. Our starting point is a proper conversation about what the person wants changed and what they would rather we left alone. Plans are agreed rather than issued, and we revisit them when circumstances shift. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We ask the people we support how we are doing and give more weight to the awkward answers than the generous ones.
