We are the Potens team in Dorset, providing care and support in people's own homes from our base at Broadstone. We work with adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. We take the word support seriously and try hard not to let it slide into doing things for people. The first conversation is about somebody's life rather than their difficulties: what a good week looks like, what stands in the way of it, and what they would much rather manage themselves. The rota comes after that, never before. In practice that often means somebody alongside a person rather than doing things for them. At college, at work, on the bus, at an appointment, or through the difficult early weeks of living independently for the first time. Where a physical disability or sensory loss affects how somebody gets about, we work around the person rather than expecting them to adapt to us. Consistency is what we work hardest at. The same small team stays around a person, changes get proper notice, and we stick to what we agreed even when it is inconvenient for us. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
