    • Care Home

Here at Hen Cloud House, we provide residential care for older adults in the heart of Leek, Staffordshire. Our home supports people living with dementia, those managing physical disabilities, and individuals with visual or hearing impairments. We also offer respite care for those who need a short stay, whether to recover after a hospital admission or to give family carers a well earned break. We want everyone who lives here to feel genuinely at home. That means knowing people as individuals, understanding what matters to them, and making sure daily life reflects their own preferences and routines rather than ours. Good care, in our experience, comes from listening carefully and being consistent, so we work hard to ensure our team really gets to know each resident and their family. We are transparent about where we stand. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating, and we take that seriously. We have been working through a clear action plan to address the areas identified, and we are committed to being open with residents, families and regulators about the progress we are making. We believe honesty matters more than presenting a polished image, and families deserve to know exactly what we are doing to improve. Leek is a town with a strong sense of community, and we try to reflect that within our home. We encourage connections with the local area and welcome family involvement in day to day life here. Visiting, staying for a meal, or simply being part of conversations about a loved one's care are all things we genuinely encourage rather than just permit. If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, please do get in touch. We are always happy to have an honest conversation.

    • Care Home

We are Choices Housing at 20 Dairy Close in Leek, a residential care setting supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people living with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss, including younger adults. We also care for people living with dementia. Our starting point is always the individual. We spend time learning how somebody communicates, what they enjoy, what unsettles them and what helps them settle again, and we make sure the whole team understands those things in the same way. Consistency is what allows a person to relax, and it is also what lets us notice early when something is not right. The day here belongs to the people who live in the house. People get up when they are ready, spend their time on what genuinely interests them and keep as much charge of their own routine as they want. Respite stays are available as well. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better measure is whether people here look relaxed.

    • Care Home

Wall Hill Care Home is a residential care home in Leek, Staffordshire. We care for older people, including people living with dementia or with mental ill health and people with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays. We want to be open about our regulatory position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. We have accepted the findings, we are working through an improvement plan, and we have made changes to training, supervision and the way we check our own practice. Anyone considering the home should ask us about it directly. The daily work continues. People here keep their own routines, choose how they spend the day and what they eat, and are helped with washing, dressing, medication and mobility in the way that suits them. For residents living with dementia, our team relies on knowing the person, keeping the surroundings calm and giving time rather than instructions. Families are welcome, and we keep in touch with them honestly, including when the news is not what anybody hoped for. If you are looking at residential care in or around Leek, please come and visit, ask the difficult questions and judge us on what you find.

    • Care Home

Greenfield House is a residential care home in Leek, Staffordshire. We support older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia, a learning disability or autism, or a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and those living with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available for shorter periods. We support a broad mix of people here, so we plan around individuals rather than working to a formula. Residents decide when they get up, how they spend their time and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered. We must be open about our most recent inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. We accepted them, put an improvement plan in place and are working through it, with closer oversight of the areas the inspectors raised. We would far rather tell you this ourselves and let you judge the progress for yourself. Our staff take time to learn what helps a particular resident feel settled and what unsettles them, and we adapt how we communicate to suit the person. We keep close contact with GPs and community teams and keep families informed. Please come and look round and ask us the difficult questions.

    • Care Home

Beech Dene Residential Care Home sits in Leek, in the Staffordshire moorlands, and we provide residential care for older people and for younger adults whose needs mean that living alone is no longer realistic. We are a home rather than an institution, and most of what we do is ordinary: helping people wash and dress, keeping an eye on health, sitting down together for meals, and making sure nobody spends the day waiting for somebody to speak to them. We support people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, people with physical disabilities, and residents with sight or hearing loss. Where somebody communicates differently, we learn how they do it rather than expecting them to adapt to us. We also take planned respite stays, which gives family carers a genuine break and lets people get to know us without committing to anything. We want to be straightforward about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We did not welcome that, but we would rather say so plainly than talk around it. The findings gave us a clear list of things to put right, and our manager and staff team are working through them, with closer checks on our records, our medicines practice and the training we give people who work here. Families are welcome to ask us how that work is going, and we will give an honest answer rather than a comfortable one.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Leek

Arranging residential dementia care tends to go more smoothly when the practical groundwork comes first. Working out what help is genuinely needed, and who might contribute towards the cost, puts a family on far firmer ground than ringing round homes to ask about vacancies and weekly fees.

Beginning with a care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support has a right to an assessment, whatever their income or savings. It considers memory, daily living, mobility and risk, and results in a written account of the support required. That document becomes the reference point for everything that follows, including which homes can realistically meet the need. Assessments are carried out by Staffordshire County Council, which is also the body responsible for arranging funded support where someone is eligible.

How funding is worked out

A financial assessment follows the needs assessment and looks at capital, income and property. Where savings fall below the national threshold, the authority may contribute towards fees, and where nursing input is required a separate contribution from the NHS may apply. Families who expect to pay privately still benefit from going through the process, because it records the level of need independently and can be revisited if circumstances change.

Building a realistic picture of costs

Fees differ from one home to the next and according to the level of support involved, so ask each provider for a written breakdown showing what the weekly charge covers and what is billed separately. Confirm how often fees are reviewed and what happens if needs increase over time. Comparing written quotations side by side is far more reliable than comparing figures given over the telephone.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Leek

Five residential care homes in Leek match this search. All are registered to provide accommodation and personal care rather than nursing on site, which matters a great deal when weighing up whether a home can meet a particular level of need, both now and as dementia progresses.

Reading the inspection findings

One of the five holds a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission and four are currently rated Requires Improvement. A headline rating on its own tells you relatively little, so open the full report behind it. Inspectors set out which of the key questions fell short, whether concerns touched on safety, staffing or leadership, and what the provider was asked to put right. The date of the inspection matters too, since a home may have changed considerably since inspectors last visited.

What to look for when you visit

Visit more than once and at different times of day, including a mealtime. Notice how staff speak to residents who are distressed or disorientated, whether people look occupied rather than simply seated, and how freely residents move about. Ask how the home sustains familiar routines as memory declines further, how it involves families in reviewing care, and what proportion of staff have completed training in dementia. Trust what you observe at least as much as what you are told.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Leek

How many dementia care homes are there in Leek?

Leek has 5 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 6 CQC registered care homes in Leek: 1 Good, 4 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Leek were inspected most recently?

Wall Hill Care Home Limited (18 December 2025), Hen Cloud House (2 September 2023) and Beech Dene Residential Care Home (8 February 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.

Can Staffordshire County Council fund a placement in a dementia care home?

It can contribute where someone meets both the care and the financial criteria. A care needs assessment establishes the level of support required, and a financial assessment then looks at capital, income and property to decide what the person pays themselves. Where savings fall below the national threshold, the authority may meet part or all of the fees. Where a registered nurse is needed, a separate NHS contribution may also apply.

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Leek?

You can request one directly from Staffordshire County Council, which is responsible for carrying out assessments and for arranging funded support. A request can be made by the person needing care or by a relative acting on their behalf. The assessment is free and does not depend on income or savings. Asking early is sensible, because the written outcome shapes which homes are suitable and what help with fees may follow.

How far ahead should a family start looking?

Earlier than most people expect is the honest answer. Starting while there is no immediate crisis means you can visit homes properly, read inspection reports in full and compare written fee quotations without pressure. Sudden moves arranged after a hospital admission tend to narrow the choice considerably. Even if a move is some way off, an assessment and a shortlist are worth having ready.

Which providers in Leek offer dementia care?

Five providers match this search, all of them registered as residential care homes. Each one appears in the listing on this page with its current Care Quality Commission rating and a link through to its profile. The profiles carry the inspection history behind the rating. Reading those reports is the most reliable way to judge how well a particular home supports people living with dementia.

What is worth asking when visiting a dementia care home in Leek?

Ask how staff are trained to support people living with dementia and how that training is refreshed. Find out what happens when a resident becomes distressed, and how the home keeps daily routines familiar as memory changes. Ask about staffing levels overnight as well as during the day, and how families are kept informed. Request a written breakdown of fees and what they include before you decide.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, meals and daily routines, delivered by trained care staff. A dementia nursing home additionally has registered nurses on duty, so it can meet medical needs such as complex medication, wound care or support in the later stages of illness. All five providers listed for Leek are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If nursing care is likely to be needed, the care needs assessment should make that clear.
