- Care Home
Granville Gardens Care Home is in Hinckley. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia and those with physical disabilities, along with respite and short stays. We would rather be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We accepted the findings, we have been working through them, and anybody considering the home should ask us directly what has changed and what is still to be put right. We would think less of a family that did not ask. What we are trying to offer is not complicated, though it is hard to do consistently. A comfortable house where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That begins with asking how somebody has always lived and then actually working that way rather than fitting people to a routine that suits the rota. Dementia care here depends on familiarity. We keep staffing as steady as we can, we do not hurry anybody, and we take the trouble to learn what reassures a particular person. For residents with physical disabilities we look at equipment and at how the building is arranged so that independence is protected where it can be. Families are welcome through the day and are kept properly informed. Please come and look round, speak to residents and relatives, and judge the place for yourself.

- Care Home
The Willows Residential Home is in Hinckley. We care for older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia and those whose physical disability means they need help to move about safely. We also support some younger adults. What we provide is help with the everyday: assistance to wash and dress, medication given properly and on time, meals cooked here, support to move about safely and staff available through the night. Around that, residents arrange their own days, and we try not to organise people's lives for them. Dementia care here rests on familiarity. Keeping staff, routines and surroundings consistent takes a good deal of anxiety out of the day, so we plan rotas with that in mind and we ask families for the history that helps us make sense of somebody when words are hard to find. Where people need help to move, we take the time doing it safely and comfortably requires. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Leicestershire are welcome to visit.

- Care Home
The Trees is a residential care home in Hinckley, Leicestershire. We support a notably mixed group and that is a deliberate choice. Older adults live here, including many with dementia. So do younger adults. Among the people we support are those with a learning disability, autistic people, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability, and people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Running a home with that mix takes more thought than running one where everybody is alike, because no single routine will do. So we work out what each person's day ought to look like and then make the house fit around it. One resident may want early meals and quiet evenings. Another may be out at a day service and back late with shopping and opinions. Both are reasonable. Access and communication get real attention here. Where sight or hearing has gone, an ordinary building starts working against a person, so we think about light, contrast, noise, signage and how staff approach somebody. Where information is taken in differently, we use pictures, write things down, slow down and check rather than assume. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and visit, and talk to residents rather than only to us.

- Care Home
Here at Hinckley House Care Home, we provide residential and dementia care for older people, younger adults and individuals living with physical disabilities, right in the heart of Hinckley, Leicestershire. We also offer respite care for those who need short term support, whether that means recovering after a stay in hospital or giving a family carer some time to rest. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the effort and commitment our team brings to their work every single day. That rating matters to us, not as a badge to display, but because it tells the people we support and their families that we can be trusted to get things right. Our approach is straightforward. We take the time to understand each person who comes through our doors, what they enjoy, what matters to them, how they like their day to run. For those living with dementia, that kind of individual understanding is especially important, and we work hard to create an environment where people feel safe, familiar and genuinely at home. For younger adults and those with physical disabilities, we know that moving into a care home can feel like a big step. We do not take that lightly. We work alongside residents and their families to make sure the support we provide fits around the person rather than the other way around. Families are always welcome here. We believe that staying connected to the people you love is part of what keeps you well, and we actively encourage visits and involvement in day to day life wherever possible. If you would like to find out whether Hinckley House Care Home could be the right place for you or someone close to you, we would be very happy to have a conversation.

- Care Home
We at Moat House are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the heart of Hinckley, Leicestershire, where compassionate support meets genuine community spirit. Nestled within the familiar surroundings of Hinckley, our home benefits from its setting in a well established Leicestershire town, offering residents the comfort of a peaceful environment whilst remaining connected to local amenities, green spaces, and the wider East Midlands community. Families visiting from across the LE postcode area and further afield will find us accessible and approachable, with an atmosphere designed to feel less like an institution and more like a true home. Our specialisms reflect the breadth of experience within our team. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support adults with mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. Our doors are open to younger adults who benefit from a supportive residential setting, and we welcome respite stays for those needing shorter term care, whether to recover after a hospital stay or to give family carers a well earned break. In practice, this means every resident receives care shaped around who they are, not simply what they need. For someone living with dementia, that might mean gentle routines, familiar reassurance, and meaningful daily moments. For a resident with a physical disability or sensory impairment, it means thoughtful adjustments and patient, respectful support that promotes independence wherever possible. For families, it means peace of mind knowing your loved one is understood as an individual, with their preferences, history, and personality guiding the care they receive. Following our most recent inspection in October 2022, the Care Quality Commission rated Moat House as Good across every domain: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent rating reflects the everyday commitment of our team to deliver care that is not only safe and well organised, but also kind, responsive, and thoughtfully led. For families weighing up their options, a Good rating across all five areas offers reassurance that standards are being met in every aspect of daily life at the home. If you are exploring residential care in Hinckley for a parent, partner, or loved one, we warmly invite you to get in touch. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we are here to answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and help you feel confident about the next step. At Moat House, your loved one will always be treated with the dignity, warmth, and respect they deserve.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Hinckley
Settling the practical questions early tends to widen the choice rather than narrow it, because the homes families most want are rarely the ones with an immediate vacancy. Both assessments described below are free and neither commits you to anything.
Requesting a care needs assessment
Anybody who appears to need care and support can ask for an assessment of their needs, and savings make no difference to that right. A referral to Leicestershire County Council adult social care can be made by the person themselves, a relative, a GP or a hospital discharge team. With dementia it helps to describe behaviour as well as practical tasks, including night waking, leaving the house alone or distress during personal care, since those details determine whether a residential setting can cope. Ask for a carer's assessment at the same time if a family member has been absorbing most of the work.
Where the council may contribute
A financial assessment follows, weighing income and capital against the national thresholds. People above the upper limit normally meet the fee themselves, while those below may receive partial or full support. Where needs are mainly clinical rather than social, NHS continuing healthcare is assessed separately and can cover the full cost. Families who prefer a home charging above the council rate can sometimes arrange a third party contribution, though it needs to be affordable for the long term.
What it tends to cost
Dementia placements generally sit above the standard residential rate, reflecting higher staffing levels and additional training. Fees are quoted weekly, so establish what they exclude, such as chiropody, hairdressing and escorted appointments, and ask how often they are reviewed.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Hinckley
What the inspection record shows
The Willows Residential Home, Hinckley House Care Home, Moat House and The Trees are each rated Good, while Granville Gardens Care Home currently sits at Requires Improvement. With so few homes to consider, reading all five reports is realistic and well worth doing. Look past the single word at what inspectors said about staffing, medication and how concerns raised by families were handled.
Signs of real expertise
A settled staff team counts for more than any refurbishment, since familiarity is what replaces memory for somebody with dementia. Ask how long the senior carers have been in post and how many agency shifts were used last month. Notice whether residents can move about freely and reach outdoor space, and whether anybody is left calling out unanswered.
Questions worth asking
Ask how the home manages late afternoon agitation and what it tries before considering medication. Ask how many residents one carer supports after eight in the evening, and how families hear about falls or infections. Visit twice if you can, once unannounced and once at a mealtime, because that is when a home shows you its real character.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Hinckley
How many dementia care homes are there in Hinckley?
Hinckley has 5 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 7 CQC registered care homes in Hinckley: 4 Good, 1 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Hinckley were inspected most recently?
The Trees (16 January 2026), Granville Gardens Care Home (8 April 2025) and Hinckley House Care Home (11 March 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.
Will Leicestershire County Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It may, once a care needs assessment confirms that residential dementia care is appropriate and a financial assessment has examined income and capital. Those with capital above the national upper threshold usually fund the placement privately, at least at first, while those below it may receive partial or full support. Where health needs predominate, NHS continuing healthcare is a separate route worth asking about. If you choose a home charging more than the council will pay, a relative can sometimes meet the difference through a third party contribution.
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hinckley?
Contact the adult social care team at Leicestershire County Council and explain what your relative can no longer manage safely at home. The assessment is free and open to anybody who appears to need support, whatever their savings, and a GP or hospital team can refer on your behalf. Note down specific recent incidents beforehand, such as falls, missed medication or going out at night, because concrete examples carry far more weight than a general description of decline. Ask for a carer's assessment as well if you have been providing much of the care.
How far ahead should we start looking for dementia care in Hinckley?
Three to six months is ideal where the decline is gradual, as it allows unhurried visits and time on a waiting list for a home you genuinely like. With only five homes in Hinckley to consider, an early start matters more than it would in a larger town, because a single vacancy can determine the outcome. Many families instead begin during a crisis, often after a fall or a hospital admission, and then have days rather than months. Completing both assessments in advance removes the slowest part of the process.
Which care homes in Hinckley provide dementia care?
Five residential care homes currently appear for dementia care in Hinckley: The Willows Residential Home, Hinckley House Care Home, Moat House, Granville Gardens Care Home and The Trees. Each has its own profile here showing the current Care Quality Commission rating. Registration to support people with dementia does not mean every home offers the same depth of experience, so compare the inspection reports rather than relying on the list alone. Contact several at once, since availability changes week to week.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Hinckley?
Start with how long the manager and the senior carers have been in post, because stability at that level shapes everything beneath it. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes distressed or refuses personal care, and listen for an answer about understanding the cause. Check overnight staffing numbers, how much agency cover is used, and how the home communicates with families after an incident. Then ask whether you can stay for a meal, as mealtimes reveal more than any guided tour.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home provides accommodation, meals and personal care from staff trained in supporting memory loss and confusion. A dementia nursing home does the same but also keeps a registered nurse on duty at all times, enabling it to meet clinical needs such as complex wounds, tube feeding or care at the very end of life. All five providers listed for Hinckley are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If your relative already receives regular nursing input, check what a home is registered to manage before you commit.
