    • Care Home

Housman Care is a residential care home in Bromsgrove. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, along with respite and short stays. We would rather be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We accepted the findings, we have been working through them, and anybody considering the home should ask us directly what has changed and what is still to be put right. We would think less of a family that did not ask. What we are trying to offer is not complicated, though it is hard to do consistently. A comfortable house where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That begins with asking how somebody has always lived and then actually working that way rather than fitting people to a routine that suits the rota. Dementia care here depends on familiarity. We keep staffing as steady as we can, we do not hurry anybody, and we take the trouble to learn what reassures a particular person, since it is rarely the same for two of them. Families often find this stage hard, and we try to give them honest information rather than comfortable reassurance. Visitors are welcome through the day and are kept properly informed. Please come and look round, speak to residents and relatives, and judge the place for yourself.

    • Care Home

Regents Court is a residential care home in Bromsgrove providing care for older people, including those living with dementia. We are here for the point at which life at home has become too much, whether that has happened slowly over several years or suddenly after a fall or an illness. People living here have their own room and a good deal of say over how their days run. Our staff help with washing, dressing, mobility, medication and anything else that has become difficult, and they do it without rushing people or taking over more than is needed. For those with dementia, we hold on to routine and familiarity, keep explanations simple and calm, and learn what a person's behaviour is telling us rather than treating it as a problem to be managed. Meals are cooked on site and eaten together by those who want the company. There is usually something going on during the day, though nobody is obliged to join in. Visitors from Bromsgrove and further afield are welcome, and we encourage families to stay as involved as they wish to be. We offer respite stays as well, which suit families who need a break and people who want to try the home before deciding. If you would like to visit, ring us and arrange a time. You will get an honest account of what we can and cannot do.

We are Mount Croft Care Home in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available. We aim for something domestic rather than institutional. People bring their own furniture and pictures, keep their own habits, and decide for themselves how their day runs. What time you wake, where you eat, whether you want company or would rather sit quietly: those are your decisions and they stay that way. A great deal of what makes a day here good is quite unremarkable, and we would rather describe it plainly than make grand claims. For people living with dementia we work with the person as they are now. Knowing their history, recognising early what tends to unsettle them and having the patience to go at their pace prevents a lot of distress before it begins. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Until we have, please come and see the home and ask us detailed questions about staffing, training and how care is planned here. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would always rather hear a concern early.

    • Care Home

Hallmark Mount Croft is a residential care home in Bromsgrove, supporting older people and younger adults across Worcestershire, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. The surroundings here are comfortable, and we are glad of that, but a care home is judged by its ordinary days rather than its frontage. So our attention goes to the things that actually shape a week. Meals cooked here and eaten at a table. Personal care offered calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Rooms that look like they belong to the person living in them. Staff awake overnight. Enough happening in the house to give the day a shape, and nobody pressed into joining anything. People keep their own routines wherever we can arrange it, because a home that insists everyone rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has quietly stopped being a home. For residents with a physical disability, getting about matters enormously. Accessible bathrooms, the right equipment, and staff who know how a particular person wants to be helped to move. Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is easy to cause and very hard to reverse. Where dementia is part of somebody's life we work on familiarity and calm instead of correction, and we ask relatives early for the history that helps us reach a person. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see the home and talk to the people who live here.

Our home provides specialist older person care, dementia support, and respite stays, welcoming residents into an environment where comfort, dignity and genuine warmth are at the heart of everything we do. Nestled within the West Midlands countryside, our setting offers a tranquil retreat that feels a world away from the pace of modern life, whilst remaining conveniently accessible for family and friends visiting from Bromsgrove and the wider Worcestershire area. The gentle rhythm of life here is designed to reflect the character of a true home, where residents can enjoy familiar routines, quiet corners for reflection, and welcoming communal spaces for shared moments. Our care philosophy centres on the whole person, recognising that every resident brings their own history, preferences and personality. For older people who need a helping hand with daily living, we offer thoughtful residential care that preserves independence wherever possible whilst providing reassurance when it is needed. Our dementia care is delivered with patience, understanding and specialist insight, ensuring that residents living with memory loss feel safe, valued and understood at every stage of their journey. Families often tell us how much peace of mind this brings, knowing their loved one is somewhere that truly sees them as an individual. We also welcome guests for respite care, which can be a wonderful opportunity for someone to enjoy a supported break, recover after a hospital stay, or simply give a family carer a well earned rest. Respite stays also offer families the chance to experience our community first hand, which many find helpful when considering longer term options. Our commitment to quality has been formally recognised by the Care Quality Commission, who awarded Burcot Grange an Outstanding overall rating at our most recent inspection. We were particularly proud to receive Outstanding ratings in the Caring, Responsive and Well led domains, alongside Good ratings for Safe and Effective care. This reflects the compassion of our team, the personalised nature of our approach, and the strong leadership that shapes daily life at the home. Achieving Outstanding is something only a small proportion of care homes nationally accomplish, and we hold that achievement as both a privilege and a responsibility to keep striving for the very best. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the mixture of emotions that comes with it. If you are exploring options for yourself or a loved one, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, or arrange a visit to see for yourself the community we have built here in Bromsgrove. Whatever stage you are at in your search, we are here to listen, to guide and to help you feel confident about what comes next.

    • Care Home

The Lodge at Burcot Grange is a residential care home near Bromsgrove. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and some younger adults. Respite stays are available too. We want the home to feel like a household rather than an institution, which in practice means residents run their own days as far as they are able. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, and decide how much time to spend with others. Rooms are personalised from the start, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures because a room that looks like yours settles you far faster. Where someone has a physical disability or reduced sight or hearing, we pay attention to the practical details. Equipment that suits the person, a layout that stays predictable, things kept where people expect to find them, and staff who adapt how they communicate rather than expecting the person to manage. Dementia care rests on familiar staff, a steady rhythm and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Families often supply the detail that explains everything, and we ask for it early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit The Lodge.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Bromsgrove

Dementia care asks something different of a home than general residential care does. The building matters, because clear sightlines and recognisable doorways help people find their own way about, but the staff matter far more: whether they are trained to respond to distress without arguing, whether they know each resident's history, and whether there are enough of them at the hardest times of day. All 8 homes listed for Bromsgrove are registered for residential care rather than nursing.

What the ratings show

Burcot Grange holds an Outstanding rating, 8 homes are rated Good, Housman Care Ltd sits at Requires Improvement and Mount Croft Care Home has not yet been rated. Open the reports rather than relying on the headline word, and look closely at the sections on safety, on staffing and on whether the service is well led, as those three carry the most weight for somebody living with dementia. A home with no rating yet is usually newly registered rather than a cause for concern.

What to look for on a visit

Go in the late afternoon, when confusion and restlessness are often at their worst, and see how the staff handle it. Ask what dementia training carers receive and how often it is refreshed, how many are on duty overnight, and how the home occupies people who cannot follow a group activity. Watch whether residents are spoken to as adults with histories of their own, because that single observation reveals more than any policy document.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Bromsgrove

Fees cannot be settled sensibly until the level of need is written down and the household finances have been looked at, and both steps cost nothing.

Requesting a care needs assessment

You can ask for an assessment on your own behalf or for a relative who consents, and the right to one does not depend on income or savings. The assessor looks at washing, dressing, eating, medication, mobility, memory and how safe the present arrangement really is, then produces a written support plan. Ask for a copy, because every home will want to see it. Mention a diagnosis of dementia explicitly, as it affects the level of support identified.

Who pays, and how much

Assessments and funded placements in Bromsgrove are handled by Worcestershire County Council Adult Social Care, which carries out a financial assessment alongside the needs assessment to establish the household contribution. Income, savings and usually the value of a property are all taken into account, and anyone with capital above the upper threshold pays privately at first. Where health needs rather than social care needs dominate, NHS continuing healthcare may be assessed instead, which is worth raising where dementia is advanced. Fees vary by home and by room, so ask for a written schedule showing what the weekly charge covers.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Bromsgrove

How many dementia care homes are there in Bromsgrove?

Bromsgrove has 8 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 9 CQC registered care homes in Bromsgrove: 1 Outstanding, 4 Good, 1 Requires improvement, 2 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Bromsgrove were inspected most recently?

Regents Court Care Home (18 November 2024), Housman Care Ltd (12 January 2024) and Breme Residential Care Home (18 March 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which care homes in Bromsgrove offer dementia care?

8 residential care homes serving Bromsgrove are listed as registered to support people living with dementia. They include Burcot Grange, The Lodge at Burcot Grange, Breme Residential Care Home, Regents Court Care Home and Malvern View. Each entry is drawn from current Care Quality Commission registration data for the area. Opening a profile shows the rating a home holds and leads you to the inspection report behind it.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Bromsgrove?

Ask what dementia specific training the carers receive, how often it is refreshed, and how many staff are on duty overnight. Ask how the home supports someone who becomes distressed or wants to leave, and what it does for people who cannot join in a group activity. Request a written schedule of fees showing what is included and what carries an extra charge, and ask when fees were last reviewed. Finally, ask how the home acted on the findings of its most recent inspection, because the answer reveals a great deal about how it is led.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care in a setting designed and staffed for people living with the condition, covering help with washing, dressing, eating, medication and daily routine. A dementia nursing home does all of that and keeps a registered nurse on site at all hours, which matters where there are swallowing difficulties, pressure wounds or complex medication to manage. The homes listed on this page are registered for residential care rather than nursing. As dementia advances, clinical needs often grow, so ask each home what it can continue to manage and at what point a move would become necessary.

Can Worcestershire County Council pay towards a dementia care home placement?

It can, but only after both a care needs assessment and a financial assessment have been completed. Worcestershire County Council considers income, savings and in most cases the value of any property, and someone with capital above the upper threshold is expected to meet the cost themselves at first. Where the council does contribute it pays up to a set rate, and a home charging above that may ask for a third party contribution. Where dementia is advanced and health needs dominate, NHS continuing healthcare may be assessed instead, so it is worth asking which route applies.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Bromsgrove?

Contact the adult social care team at Worcestershire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which you may request for yourself or for a relative who agrees. It is free and is carried out whatever the household income or savings. An assessor will discuss daily tasks, health conditions, medication, mobility, memory and the risks in the current home. Say clearly that dementia has been diagnosed, as it affects the level of support identified in the resulting plan.

How early should I start looking for a dementia care home in Bromsgrove?

Earlier than most families expect, because dementia tends to progress in steps rather than smoothly and a crisis can arrive with little warning. Three to six months ahead gives time to visit homes more than once, at different times of day, and to let an assessment run its course. With only seven homes serving the town, a vacancy may not exist on the day you need one, so having a second and third choice already visited is genuinely useful. Looking while there is no urgency also means the person concerned can take part in the decision.
