About Loddon Court
Loddon Court is a residential home near Reading, in Wokingham borough. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, most of them younger adults, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. The first thing to say is that this is a home rather than an institution. The people who live here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and they have genuine say over how a week looks. Support plans are agreed with the person and written in language the person can read. Staff are matched to people with some thought rather than allocated to whoever is on shift. Our job is support, and the word is meant precisely. We do things with people, not to them and not for them when they can manage. That might be cooking, budgeting, travel, appointments, keeping in touch with family, or dealing with organisations that are not designed for people who think differently. Where somebody needs a great deal of routine and predictability in order to feel safe, we hold that routine consistently and without treating it as a nuisance. Risk comes up regularly. We start from how something might be made to work rather than from a refusal, because a life with all the risk taken out of it is not much of a life. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Come and meet the people who live here.
