About 15 Mossmead
15 Mossmead is a small residential care home in Chippenham, Wiltshire. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults and older residents. Because only a few people live here, we can work at each person's pace rather than at the pace of a rota. Residents help decide what happens in the house, what is cooked, how their own rooms look and how their weeks are spent. Staff are a small and consistent group, so nobody has to begin again with a stranger who does not know how they take their tea or what a particular gesture means. How someone communicates shapes everything else, so that is our first job: learning each person's way of making themselves understood, including residents who use little or no speech, and adjusting ourselves accordingly. For autistic residents, predictability and sensory comfort are not extras. We keep the environment steady and we give notice of changes well before they happen. We are interested in people being able to do more rather than being done for. That shows up in unremarkable things such as making a meal, handling money in a shop, using local transport or arranging to see somebody. Gains like these take months and they belong to the person, not to us. The Care Quality Commission last rated us good overall. Families, advocates and professionals are welcome to visit and to ask whatever they need to.
