About 3-4 Priors Court Cottages
Priors Court Cottages at Thatcham is a small residential setting for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, most of them younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. The cottages are deliberately small, because for many of the people we support a calm, predictable household does more good than anything else we could arrange. People live here for years, so we treat the place as their home and ourselves as part of the household. They decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed and recorded in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift can get a morning right without being told. For anybody who finds change unsettling, that consistency is the foundation of everything else, and we do not vary routines for our own convenience. Communication is where the real work lies. Not everybody here uses speech, and understanding how a person shows a preference, a worry or a refusal is what makes choice genuine rather than nominal. We learn each person's way, write it down, and check what we think we have understood. We encourage life beyond the front door, with college, work, clubs and friendships. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
