About 1-2 Prior's Court Cottages
We are a pair of residential cottages at Prior's Court near Thatcham, supporting autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Being small is the most important thing about us. It means the people who live here are genuinely known rather than nominally known, that staff notice a change in somebody's mood without needing it reported, and that the household can run around the people in it rather than the other way round. Predictability is something we take particularly seriously. For many of those living with us, knowing exactly what is happening and who will be on shift is the difference between a settled day and a very difficult one. So we plan ahead, we explain changes early, and we do not rearrange things because it would suit a rota. Where somebody communicates differently we sort that out properly rather than half doing it, because everything else we do depends on it. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here, and those who know them best, what we should be doing differently.
