About The Coombe House
The Coombe House is a residential care home in Reading, West Berkshire, offering a settled and comfortable home for older people who are finding it hard to manage on their own. We think of this as a home before anything else. People choose when they get up, where they sit, what they eat and how they spend the day. Care is given quietly, with proper regard for privacy and dignity, and we support people to carry on doing whatever they can still manage for themselves, because independence quietly taken over is very hard to win back. Staff here know everybody well, including all the things that never appear in a care plan: who likes an early start, who would rather have breakfast in their own room, who wants the company of the lounge and who would sooner have their own peace. That familiarity, more than any policy, is what makes an ordinary day here feel ordinary. Families are part of the household. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them, we keep relatives properly informed, and we would far rather a worry was raised with us early. Respite stays are available as well, for people needing support after illness or a hospital admission and for families who care for a relative at home and need a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We know that is something to keep earning rather than to own. Please come and see us.
