About 18 Wolverton Gardens, (Active Prospects)
We are 18 Wolverton Gardens in Horley, Surrey, a residential care home run as part of Active Prospects. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including older people, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Living somewhere small has real advantages for the people we support. Routines can be genuinely individual rather than negotiated between too many competing needs, and staff come to know everybody properly rather than only what is written down. We try to keep the house feeling like a house. People have their own rooms and their own things, make their own choices about the day, and are supported to do as much for themselves as they can manage. Where somebody needs help to make a decision we provide the help rather than making the decision for them. Predictability is a large part of what makes a place work for autistic people. Saying what will happen and when, and then being right, does more than reassurance. Where a routine matters to somebody we protect it rather than asking them to be flexible for our convenience. Families and advocates are welcome and involved as much as the person wishes. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
