About Manor Care Home
Washington Manor Care Home is a residential care home in Washington, in Sunderland. We look after older people who can no longer manage at home alone, including a good many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We are not a nursing home and we are clear with families about where that line falls. What we do is the daily work of helping somebody wash and dress, take their medicines, eat properly, move about safely and stay connected to other people. Done well that is a skilled job and it depends almost entirely on whether staff know the person, so keeping our team is where most of our effort goes. Staff here are mostly local and tend to stay, which does more for the people living here than any amount of decoration, and relatives are generally close enough to call in without making a journey of it. For residents with dementia we have found steadiness beats stimulation. The same faces, meals at the same times, a bedroom that looks like the person's own room, and nothing moved without a reason. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Call in and see us, with or without warning.
