About Grange
Washington Grange is a residential care home in Washington for older people, including those living with dementia. We are not a nursing home, so what we do well is personal care, a settled daily rhythm and knowing everybody who lives here as a person rather than a set of needs. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, at the pace of the person rather than the pace of a rota. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the surroundings familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and try to work out what is behind a change in mood instead of treating it as a symptom. Families usually know a person better than any assessment, and what they tell us shapes how we work. Mealtimes matter here. Food is cooked on the premises, we ask people what they actually fancy and nobody is hurried along. Respite stays are available, whether to give a family carer a break, to help somebody build strength back up after illness or to let a person see what living here is like before a longer decision. You are welcome to visit and ask us anything.
