About Holly House Care Home
Holly House Care Home is a residential care home in Washington, in Sunderland. We look after older people who need help through the day, including many living with dementia, people who have managed a mental health condition for years, and people with a physical disability. Some of the people living with us are younger adults, and respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and also a little wary, because a rating reflects a short inspection and what matters is the rest of the year. We treat it as a standard to hold rather than something to put on a banner. What we think we get right is mostly ordinary. Staff who stay, year after year, and therefore know which chair a person prefers and which songs they know all the words to. Meals that are hot and actually wanted. Nobody hurried through a wash. For residents with dementia, a predictable day and surroundings that do not change without reason. Where a physical disability is involved, equipment that fits the person and enough time allowed that they can do what they can. We want relatives in the building often. Come and see us on a normal day, unannounced if you would rather.
