About Short Break Respite Unit

We are a short break and respite unit in Stowmarket, Suffolk, providing planned stays for adults who need support with daily living. Short breaks do two jobs at once, and both matter. They give family carers a proper rest, which is not a luxury but the thing that makes carrying on possible. They also give the person staying with us something of their own, whether that is a change of scene, company, a break from the usual routine, or simply a few days where somebody else does the cooking. We support adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, older adults and younger adults. Before anybody comes to stay we want to know how they communicate, what their routines are, what unsettles them, what they like to eat and what they enjoy doing, so that a visit feels familiar from the start rather than strange. Families tell us that knowing we have asked those questions is half the reassurance. Many people return to us regularly, which means we come to know them well and each stay is easier than the last. Our staff are trained for the work they do, checked before they start and supported by managers who know the people staying with us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
