About Palmerston House Care Home
Palmerston House Care Home is a residential home in Westcliff on Sea for older people, including those living with dementia. We are not a nursing home, and our strengths are personal care, a settled daily rhythm and knowing everybody who lives here properly rather than from paperwork. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become difficult, at the pace of the person and not the pace of a rota. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet room with the door closed. For residents living with dementia we keep the surroundings familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and try to work out what is behind a change in mood instead of treating it as a symptom. Families usually know a person far better than any assessment, and what they tell us shapes how we work. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually fancy. Being near the seafront means getting out for some air is easy, and visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. Respite stays are available, whether to give a family carer a break, to help somebody regain strength after illness or to try life here before a longer decision. Please ring us if you would like to look round.
