About Lighthouse
We are Lighthouse, a residential care home in Westcliff on Sea. We support adults living here, including younger adults, people with a learning disability or who are autistic, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays for people who need somewhere steady for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. This is a home rather than an institution, and we try to keep it that way in the details. People choose how their room looks, when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Some of the people living here go out to work, education or clubs, some prefer the quiet of the house and the garden, and both are entirely acceptable ways to live. Where someone finds change or noise difficult we shape the environment and the routine around that rather than expecting them to adapt to us. Our staff are trained to communicate in the way each person understands best and to support people through the moments that are hard without taking over. Independence here means real choices with real consequences, and part of our job is helping people take those choices safely. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us outstanding overall. That reflects the people who live here and the team who support them, and we take it as something to keep earning rather than something to display. Visitors and enquiries are always welcome.
