About Cherrycroft
We are Cherrycroft, a residential care home in Westcliff on Sea in Southend on Sea. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for people who usually live elsewhere. We try to run this as a home rather than a placement. People have their own rooms, decorated and arranged however they want, and a real say in how the house works. What we eat, where we go, what the lounge looks like, who comes to visit. Being asked and being listened to is not an extra here, it is the point. Much of what we do is about opening up opportunities rather than filling a day. Learning to cook something you like, getting confident with money, using local transport, joining a group, holding down a course or a job. We offer, we support, and we accept that some things take a long time and some never happen at all. Nobody here is pushed. Where someone communicates in ways other than speech, we learn their way of doing it properly and write it down so that every member of the team responds in the same manner. Consistency is what makes a place feel predictable, and predictability is what makes people feel safe enough to try things. Westcliff on Sea gives us the seafront, shops and plenty of reason to get out, and we make use of all of it. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We are pleased with it and we keep asking the people living here what needs to change.
