About Blakeney House
Blakeney House is a residential care home in Westcliff on Sea, supporting adults with a learning disability and adults who are autistic. We work mainly with younger adults, and we can offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We are a house rather than an institution, and the people who live here are known individually. Daily life is organised around what each person wants from their week, which might include college, work, volunteering, seeing family, or getting out along the seafront. Residents choose their own food, keep their own routines and have a say in how the house is run. Our team is expected to learn how each person communicates. For people who do not use speech, that means paying attention to gesture, expression and behaviour, and being willing to be corrected when we have read something wrongly. When somebody is distressed we look for the cause instead of managing the symptom. Respite stays are planned in advance, usually with visits beforehand, so that a short stay is a break rather than an upheaval for everybody concerned. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to see the house and meet the team, whether for a permanent place or for respite, please get in touch and we will arrange a visit.
