About Sutton House

Sutton House is a residential care home in Sutton In Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We are a house first and a care setting second. People who live here choose how they spend their days, take part in cooking, shopping and looking after the place if they want to, and arrange their own rooms. Support is agreed with each person and written down in language they can understand and check, and we review it with them rather than about them. Getting the basics right prevents most difficulties. We learn how each person communicates, what they enjoy, what makes a day go badly and what helps when it does. For autistic residents we take particular care over predictability, quiet space and clear information about what is happening next. Nobody should have to give up their outside life to move in. People here keep in touch with family and friends, attend college, work or clubs, and try new things when they want to. Where something looks difficult, our first question is how to make it work rather than whether to allow it. We also provide respite stays so that families can take a planned break. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding, which reflects the ordinary daily work of the team here. Please get in touch if you would like to visit and see the house for yourself.
