About 2-8 Orchard Street
We are a residential care home on Orchard Street in Nottingham. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people managing mental health conditions. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here want different things from their week, we plan support one person at a time. What helps an older person feel settled is not what builds confidence in a younger adult with a learning disability, and we would rather do both properly than stretch one routine across everybody. That means paying attention to particulars: how somebody likes to be spoken to, what they can manage themselves and would rather we left alone, what tends to make a difficult day. For our younger residents much of the work is about widening what is possible. Cooking something you actually want. Handling money with confidence. Getting into town on your own. Keeping a course, a job or a friendship going. Progress can be slow and can go backwards, and our part is to keep the chance open without pressure. Supporting mental health here is mostly about steadiness. We keep to what we have agreed, we notice when somebody is not themselves, and we make it easy to talk without a formal arrangement. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection.
