About Salisbury House

Salisbury House is a residential home in Newark supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, most of them younger adults building lives of their own. We keep the house small and the atmosphere calm. Everybody has their own room to retreat to, and the shared parts of the house belong to the people who live here rather than to the staff. Routines are planned around the individual, including the ones that need to stay exactly the same, because predictability is often what makes everything else possible. We start from what a person already does well and work outwards. That might mean cooking together until somebody is confident on their own, sorting out travel so they can get to college or a job, or making sure the house runs in a way that suits how they take in information. Support is agreed with each person using the way of communicating they already trust, and we learn it properly rather than guessing. Getting out into Newark and beyond is part of ordinary life here, whether that means a regular activity, work, or seeing family. Respite stays are available as well, giving families a break while their relative stays somewhere familiar with staff who know them. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.
