About Royal Mencap Society - 2 Conroy Close
We are 2 Conroy Close in York, a small residential care home run as part of the Royal Mencap Society. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including people with physical disabilities and people living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays. Small is deliberate here. It means the people who live in this house are not managing a constant stream of unfamiliar staff, that routines can be genuinely individual rather than shaped by a big rota, and that we tend to notice without being told when somebody is having a hard day. We start from what each person wants their week to look like, then work back to the support that makes it possible. That might involve personal care, help with medication, cooking, or getting out to work, college, a club or into York. Where somebody finds change or noise difficult, we keep to a predictable rhythm and prepare properly for anything out of the ordinary. This is their home, so decisions about food, decoration and how time is spent belong to the people living in it. We also talk risk through with the person and those who know them well rather than being cautious on their behalf. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to visit.
