About Sandalwood Court
Sandalwood Court is a residential care home in Corby, North Northamptonshire. We are home to older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. The aim here is a house that runs around the people in it. Residents wake when they wake, eat what they like, keep their own furniture and photographs where they want them, and choose how much of the day to spend in company. Some prefer the lounge and conversation, others their own room and the radio, and both are perfectly good ways to spend an afternoon. For residents living with dementia, predictability does most of the work. Familiar staff, a familiar routine and an unhurried approach prevent a great deal of confusion and distress. We ask families to tell us about the person's life, their work, their interests and the things that reliably comfort them, and we use that information every day rather than storing it in a file. Respite guests are treated as residents while they are here, with the same planning and welcome, so that a family carer can take a genuine break and the person staying gets something out of it too. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking residents and relatives what could be better, because that is where useful information comes from.
