About Redmond House

Redmond House in Corby is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with physical disabilities, most of them younger adults. We also offer respite stays. Because people tend to live here for years, we treat the house as their household and ourselves as part of it rather than as staff running a setting. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. Help with personal care, mobility, medication and health appointments is given exactly as each person has agreed and written down in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift gets it right without being told. Where somebody has a physical disability we think hard about equipment, layout and timing, and we assist at the point of need rather than taking over the whole task, because the difference between help that frees a person and help that diminishes them is often a matter of inches and seconds. Communication takes real effort. Some people here use speech, others use signs, symbols, objects or behaviour we have to learn to read, and we treat that learning as part of the job and check what we think we have understood. We want people to have a life beyond the front door. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
